Team Sanford-Burnham is gearing up for the big Pedal the Cause San Diego ride this Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 20 and 21). Pedal the Cause, the only multi-day cycling fundraiser to support cancer research in San Diego, provides critical funding to the community’s National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers. As home to three NCI-designated cancer centers, San Diego has long been a powerhouse for cancer research, prevention, and treatment.
Three singular institutions, Sanford-Burnham, UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, form the novel collaboration known as the San Diego National Cancer Institute Cancer Centers Council, or C3, and work together to leverage their distinct and combined resources to accelerate innovative approaches for the treatment and prevention of cancer.
The second annual bike ride features 10, 25, and 50-mile courses, as well as a two-day cycling route from La Jolla to Temecula, Calif. Two-day riders will gather at UCSD early Saturday morning to embark on their big adventure. They’ll bike through the gorgeous late-summer terrain of Southern California on their way to the Temecula Rider Camp, located at the Tucalota Creek Ranch. Once there, riders will spend the evening enjoying delicious barbecue and the camaraderie of their fellow riders before heading back to La Jolla early Sunday.
Ten, 25, and 50-mile riders will depart Sunday morning from UCSD. Finish-line celebrations are planned for Sunday and volunteers are still welcome to register to join the party (register here).
Sanford-Burnham is thrilled to once again be included in Pedal the Cause San Diego. We would like to wish everyone participating this weekend a safe and memorable ride!
