Are you or is someone in your family affected by cancer? Are you interested in learning about the latest trends and developments in cancer research? Then join us for a tweet chat with Sanford-Burnham’s Dr. Garth Powis, director of our NCI-designated Cancer Center, on March 31. The tweet chat will coincide with the airing of the three-part documentary “Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies” from March 30 until April 1 on your local PBS station (e.g., KPBS in San Diego and WUCF in Orlando).
What? Cancer research tweet chat with Dr. Garth Powis of Sanford-Burnham’s Cancer Center When? Tuesday, March 31, 8-9 p.m. Eastern Time/5-6 p.m. Pacific Time Where? Twitter, using the hashtag #CancerTC
Dr. Powis will respond to questions related to current cancer research, scientific trends, where the industry is headed, the PBS documentary, etc. He will not be able to answer questions related to specific cases, medicines, or new drugs currently in clinical trials. He will also not be able to give medical advice to patients.
How does a tweet chat work? Participating in a tweet chat is very simple. The only thing you need is a Twitter account (follow us @SanfordBurnham) either on your mobile device, tablet, or computer. On March 31, between 8 and 9 p.m. Eastern Time/5 and 6 p.m. Pacific Time, you can ask Dr. Powis questions by submitting a tweet using the hashtag #CancerTC. Make sure your tweets are public, otherwise we won’t be able to see or respond to them. Please also keep your questions within the 140-character limit, including the #CancerTC hashtag. Depending on the volume of questions, Dr. Powis might not be able to respond to every single question right away.
We hope to hear from you on Twitter on March 31! Until then, share the word about our tweet chat on your social media channels by using the hashtag #CancerTC and tell your friends about the cancer documentary on PBS by using the hashtag #CancerFilm.
