Roy Wiley - Sanford Burnham Prebys

Roy is a survivor of Stage 4 head and neck cancer (2015) and two years later, bladder cancer. Both malignancies were the result of exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam.  Roy has also been treated numerous times with Moh’s surgery for squamous cell and basil cell skin cancers.

Roy became involved in cancer advocacy in 1996 when his 4-year-old daughter was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphocytic leukemia with central nervous system involvement, spurring his work organizing minority bone marrow drives and the Children’s Cancer Quilt project. His passion is educating people about the importance of being treated at a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center and participating in clinical trials, if appropriate and possible.

His professional career is as an aviation consultant in design, engineering, marketing and sales of helicopters.
