Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute has added two new and distinguished members to its Board of Directors: Sheri L. Jamieson and Neil Davis Wachsberger
“I am thrilled to welcome Sheri and Neil to the institute and, most vitally, to the leadership team that will guide Sanford Burnham Prebys into the next 50 years of biomedical discovery and progress,” said David Brenner, MD, president and CEO of Sanford Burnham Prebys.
“Each brings an incredibly valuable and diverse set of experiences, skills and perspectives, guided by a steadfast commitment to improving lives. Sheri and Neil represent the essence of philanthropic leadership, and their partnership will be instrumental as we advance bold science with the power to change the future of human health.”
Jamieson is a well-known philanthropist and community leader in La Jolla, with a broad portfolio of interests and causes.
At UC San Diego, where she received her bachelor’s degree in anthropology in 1973 and was honored in 2020 with a True Triton Award for her enduring service to the university, Jamieson was an early member of the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center Board and one of its founding donors. She chaired the opening of the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center in 2011, and has served on its Health Board of Advisors since 2017.
She founded and served as president of the University Art Gallery Board and created the Dean’s Advisory Council of Arts and Humanities with Dean Franticek Deak, PhD, in 1995. And helped advance construction of the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park in Embarcadero Marina Park, the San Diego Symphony’s year-round waterfront venue, which opened in 2021.
Currently, Jamieson is a trustee for the UC San Diego Foundation and a member of the La Jolla Playhouse Board of Trustees.
“Sanford Burnham Prebys plays a vital role in advancing human health through bold thinking, scientific excellence, and pioneering biomedical research,” says Jamieson. “I’m honored to join the Board and support discoveries that have the potential to impact lives for generations to come.”
Wachsberger is Managing Director and Co-Founder of Market Street Healthcare Properties (MSHP), an institutional healthcare real estate investment firm headquartered in Newport Beach, California. Founded in 2010, MSHP has developed and owned more than 70 healthcare properties nationwide, with over $1 billion in medical real estate investments. The firm’s relationships with health systems, outpatient providers, and ambulatory care operators give Wachsberger a firsthand perspective on the facilities where breakthrough research ultimately reaches patients.
Wachsberger holds a Bachelor of Science in Planning and Development from the University of Southern California.
He serves on the board of trustees for the San Diego Humane Society and is co-founder of A New Life Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing dogs facing severe abuse, neglect, and abandonment, with over 10,000 dogs saved to date.
“Sanford Burnham Prebys is distinguished by the caliber of its science, the incredible people driving it forward, and the meaningful impact it has on patients and families. My hope is that the relationships and platform I’ve developed can further amplify that mission,” says Wachsberger. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to help advance work that makes a meaningful difference.”
