Tyler D. Brown has been named director of business development at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute. His duties include working with the Chief Research Development Officer and other members of the executive team to create and execute business development strategies aligned with the institute’s broader strategic plan.

These include collaborating closely with institute faculty and administrative teams—and through external relationships with corporations, investors, and other private entities—to advance licensing, investment, startup creation, collaborations, and partnerships related to institutional proprietary assets in support of long-term goals.

Brown comes from the biotechnology firm Amgen, where he was manager of Research & Development Competitive Intelligence.

Before Amgen, Brown co-founded i2o Therapeutics, a Massachusetts-based private biotech company that develops platforms to convert traditionally injectable biologic drugs and peptides into oral formulations.

He has also served as a senior business development fellow in Harvard University’s Office of Technology Development.

Brown earned an undergraduate degree in polymer science at the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of California Santa Barbara and his doctorate in bioengineering at Harvard University, where he was a National Science Foundation fellow.
