Patricia Wiley's Bio
Patti Wiley has been a Patient Advocate for over 25 years. She is the Founder of “On the Wings of Angels,” a cancer awareness foundation. Patti was the co-creator of the preeminent pediatric gold ribbon campaign which has become the internationally recognized symbol for pediatric cancer. She was named the Western Regional Chairman of the Children’s Cancer Quilt project that was displayed as part of the opening ceremonies for “The March” on cancer in Washington DC. The late Ellen Stovall, CEO of ‘The March’, invited Patti to be part of an eight-member team to speak at the Senate hearings on cancer research and meet individually with the senators to share the patient advocate perspective on the need for increased funding for clinical trials.
Patti was formally trained in CCSG and grant review processes through the National Cancer Institute CARRA program. She was appointed as standing member of the Sub Committee A Parent committee which she has served on for the last 6 years. The list of Cancer Center Support Grant reviews and grant application reviews Patti has participated in is lengthy. Her involvement in the review process has led to invitations from NCI Designated Cancer Centers to join several External Advisory Boards. She has also been involved in the Sanford Burnham Prebys CAB for several years. Patti has served on a Presidential panel on bioethics in cancer research and was recently invited by the Department of Health and Human Services to participate in the President’s childhood cancer initiative.
