Jim Myers
Jim Myers has always been driven by intellectual curiosity. It was this curiosity that first led him and his wife, Josie, to Sanford Burnham Prebys.
They began attending the Group of 12 and Friends (G12) lectures, a series of entertaining and educational talks hosted at Sanford Burnham Prebys. A friend who also happened to be a Sanford Burnham Prebys board member introduced Jim to the larger institute. Myers developed a keen interest after meeting leadership and learning about three specific research projects related to autism, a topic close to his heart. He soon joined the board.
During a board meeting, Myers listened to researchers Michael Jackson, PhD. and Nick Cosford, PhD, describe progress on five novel drug compounds with the potential to effectively treat different forms of addiction.
He shared the news with Josie and they decided to support the work with a gift that allowed Jackson, Cosford and colleagues to develop proof-of-concept studies on two compounds necessary to accelerate progress. Their gift was critical to successfully securing additional funds from the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
“We were inspired to get involved. I have been blessed to have a career that exceeded my expectations and feel we owe it to others to look for opportunities to share that fortune with others,” Myers said. “These types of projects give us the hope to know that progress is being made.”
