On Sunday, September, 21 over 40 volunteers came out to support Pedal the Cause San Diego at the Sanford-Burnham cheer tent located at the top of the Torrey Pines mesa.
Employees, their friends and family, along with members of our Cancer Center Community Advisory Board, and other close allies of the Institute, showed their support for Pedal the Cause by cheering on all riders as they made their way up the steep Torrey Pines mesa toward the final finish line located at UCSD’s main campus.
The cheer tent was ideally positioned at the top of the hill along Torrey Pines Road in order to provide maximum encouragement to riders during the last and most most difficult hill of the ride.
Our volunteers handed out ice-cold water and healthy snacks to road weary bikers and used cowbells, pom-poms, and high-fives to help motivate them to keep going.
This year’s event was phenomenally successful—and at last count, Pedal the Cause was on track to raise more than $1 million for innovative and life-saving cancer research right here at Sanford-Burnham, the Salk Institute and UCSD Moores Cancer Center.
We are grateful to everyone who participated in this year’s Pedal the Cause San Diego and to all our friends who came out to be part of the Sanford-Burnham cheer tent.
The event may have passed, but there is still time to show your support to the Pedal the Cause. Donations for this year’s riders will continue to be accepted through October 21, 2014. Find out more on how you can show your support for Team Sanford-Burnham here.
