Douglas H. Obenshain, a member of the Board of Trustees at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, passed away February 3, 2026.
Obenshain’s service to Sanford Burnham Prebys over more than two decades has been extraordinary. Since joining the Board of Trustees in 2004, he has been a steady and guiding presence — thoughtful in counsel, unwavering in integrity and deeply committed to the mission of the institute. He served in numerous leadership roles, most recently as a member of the Audit Committee and as Chair of the Compensation Committee, where his judgment and experience were invaluable.
Professionally, Doug brought the insight of a seasoned executive as partner and senior vice president of Lockton Commercial Insurance, part of the world’s largest privately held insurance firm. His expertise significantly strengthened the board’s ability to navigate complex governance and risk matters. His contributions were recognized broadly, including being named Director of the Year in 2017 by the Corporate Directors Forum.
