Beatrice Silvestri, PhD, received her BSc and MSc in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Sapienza University of Rome, where she also earned her PhD in Life Sciences. During her postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Yu Xin (Will) Wang at Sanford Burnham Prebys, she began working with spatial proteomics and developed expertise in CODEX, a highly multiplexed imaging technology that enables the simultaneous detection of dozens of proteins within intact tissue while preserving spatial and cellular context. Together with Dr. Wang, she established the CODEX Core at Sanford Burnham Prebys, where she currently serves as Core Manager.
Her work with spatial proteomics has spanned a wide range of tissues, including skeletal and cardiac muscle, brain, tumors, liver, and immune tissues, with applications in tissue regeneration, cancer, aging, and disease. She has also developed extensive expertise in the computational processing and analysis of high-dimensional spatial proteomics data, including image processing, single-cell analysis, and spatial analysis. Through the CODEX Core, she provides scientific consultation and technical support throughout the experimental workflow, including experimental design, antibody panel design and optimization, tissue preparation, multiplex imaging, data analysis, and grant preparation.
