Sanford-Burnham small molecule licensed to Daiichi Sankyo

We’re excited to announce that Sanford-Burnham has signed a licensing agreement with Daiichi Sankyo to further develop a first-in-class small molecule for the treatment of cardiovascular-metabolic disease. The small molecule is based on longstanding, groundbreaking biology work by one of our scientists and his laboratory team, who for decades focused their research on treating a consequence of cardiovascular-metabolic disease. Sanford-Burnham plays key role in San Diego Alzheimer’s Project

San Diego has formed an unprecedented coalition to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. The Alzheimer’s Project, conceived of by county Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Dianne Jacob, is an initiative with aims of both finding a cure and helping the 60,000 county residents who have the disease. Guided by a steering committee led by Jacob and chaired by Supervisor Dave Roberts, the Project brings a diverse team of experts in research, caregiving, health care, philanthropy, and community support to assimilate and execute a five-year plan with a goal to conquer the disease once and for all. Sanford-Burnham wins GlaxoSmithKline drug discovery challenge

We’re excited to announce that a joint team of scientists from Sanford-Burnham at Lake Nona and Mayo Clinic has been selected as a winner of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK)’s 2014 Discovery Fast Track Challenge. The Challenge is designed to accelerate the translation of academic research into novel therapies. Researchers from the two organizations will work with partners at GSK to screen the pharmaceutical company’s library of compounds for potential new drugs to treat resistant hypertension, blood pressure that remains high despite treatment with current medications. Sanford-Burnham commends summer 2014 high-school researchers

On July 18, eleven students from The Preuss School UCSD celebrated the completion of an intensive two-week summer research program with a poster symposium and luncheon at our La Jolla, Calif., campus. The Preuss School is a unique, charter middle and high school for low-income, highly motivated students who strive to become the first in their families to graduate from college.
